I am going to get a car in the next few month. Due to limited budget, i can only spend 4k on it. What's the best bet?

There are tons of great cars prices at 4k or less, you will just have to hunt for the right one that suits you best......

Look for a mid-1990s Toyota Camry or Corolla. My friend bought a 1994 Camry for $2,500 (great deal for a Toyota with 70,000 miles) and he's put 25,000 miles on it with no problems. He also gets pretty good mileage, even when compared to many new small cars.

Be careful, you may run into a "Katrina Car" (flooded car from hurricane Katrina). I know a guy who bought a nice mustang for like $6k and ended up having to spend another $6-8k getting it fixed...

That said, I would look for a nice Camry. They are pretty decent cars.

My wife has had two Ford escorts. They have both been extremely reliable and inexpensive. You could probably find a low mileage used one for around $4K. They aren't the prettiest or sportiest... but once you get over that "got to look cool" syndrome that you might have at a younger age, you realize that your money is better invested in other areas than a depreciating car. This is just my opinion. ;)
