I own a couple websites that I would like to set up a nice looking directory on.

This topic has certainly been discussed here before, and I am sorry for being a noob, but could someone please point me to what you feel is the best resource for directory software?

I have looked yet yeilded no great results. Thanks in advance.

Well you are aware that its been discussed before so your best bet is to ask yourself, without sounding disrespectful, asking what is the best is a bit like throwing a stone out into a lake and expecting to hit a prize fish.:)

Do some research, the best offers what you need, so ask yourself what you need.

I can guarantee you though dude, that something will happen in this thread, you watch closely ;) it will be entertaining.

    Hi,

For several months I have been looking at software for Links.com. First, I had to convince myself that there is some viable marketplace out there for a directory. I am still not fully convinced, but since some niche directories appear to be relatively successful (e.g. OVGuide), I decided to move ahead with some development.

I looked at all scripts including the more popular ones such as PHPLinkDirectory (PHPLD), Esyndicat, PHPMyDirectory, IndexU (very good), WSNLinks, PHPLynx, Gossamer Links, etc. I am currently testing out the In-Portal bundled packages (they have several bundled packages), and so far this package seems to be the best for me in terms of features and technology. It is pricey, but for me it is worth it compared to the risks and costs of other alternatives. Also, their support (which is very important to me) has been superlative so far - and they are local to me in Chicago.

    Hope this helps,

    Rich

The best programm script for a directory is the sctipt which was written especially for this directory...e.g. unique script - in case You need the best script. This is my opinion - maybe some people successfully use the standard one.
