What is the best social network software?

any ideas, which is the best to choose to build up a lasting network? Elgg or buddypress?

 

You could use a program like Onlywire or Ping.fm to automatically bookmark your posts every time you make them. It takes a little wild to set them up to begin with but once they are setup you don't have to do anything in order to build links on social networks.

Elgg is very powerfull social networking engine, it provides lots of features like social bookmarking, blogging etc.

"SocialEngine" is social networking software you easily create your own social network or online community. Really i have used for noondalton dot com and other more website.

 

I would suggest you to go with the best social networking site Facebook. It is best one now a days.

 

There are only just a few good social networking scripts around.
Actually 3 well known and solid, they exist for many years already and have good support too and private forums.

BuddyPress is best social marketing software, but there are many software are available in market.

 

There are a couple of free social engines ones out there:

- Pligg
- Oxwall
- Dolphin
- Elgg
- Enginey

Or consider using a portal like:
- liferay
- or maybe apache's esme project

But keep in mind that your server environment has to be able to handle the load...

 

I have tried PHPFox, Dolphin 7, Social Engine, BuddyPress, Elgg and Joomla Community Builder Extension.

PhpFox is by far the best, it offers scalability, stability. If you want to customize your social network with PhpFox then you will need to have knowledge of PHP, CSS, HTML and Smarty Templates. PhpFox is my favourite of all the scripts.

Don't use Dolphin 7, the code is written untidy and it receives A LOT of spam. I lost my whole site when doing an "upgrade" from one Dolphin version to another. Basically, Dolphin sucks. You will encounter lots of problems.

Social Engine contains loads of bugs and I don't think it's great with scalability if you have lots of users.

BuddyPress is good and it's free. BUT it takes a good amount of work to get a site customized and running to how you want it to run if you want to do a lot of customization.

Elgg is alright and it's free. I would rather use BuddyPress because it has better community support.

Don't even bother with Joomla Community Builder Extension
