    I would suggest Opencart.

if your only selling 50 products or less use joomla and virtue cart, it gives you ecommerce and a full shopping cart experience, the best of both worlds and looks really good and is easy to set up, and joomla and virtue mart forums are awsome. Now as a Senior Member of Magento, if your building multi stores with one back end, or have over 100 products Magento is the only ecom you need and its all free. and its even easier to use since 1.4 was released, if you need some templates let me know i have a ton of them. and when i get enough posts i will release them in the forums.

    Hey Guys,

Was browsing around the forums and saw this post...Thought I might be able to help.

OS Commerce is an excellent cart, however requires an extensive amount of customization to get going with it imo. I personally really like Magento (as its free) and out of the box makes for a very nice web cart. If you need more support and have a reasonable budget I would also checkout Volusion. We have worked with a number of these carts and they all have their pros and cons. Here is an easy to use web cart comparison page thats updated constantly and pretty accurate: http://www.mailware.com/mailware/integration/cart-comparison/

Also you may want to get on Amazon and Ebay as well...this will get you selling your products in no time.

Feel free to contact us if you guys need any help

Pretty much any of them will handle 30k product, that shouldn't be a problem. You want to make sure that they have some sort of bulk upload feature that you can use. Magento, Volusion, X-Cart, CS Cart etc. all have this. If your good at manipulating data in excel or in access this should not be a problem at all.

If you are not particularly tech savvy and have some sort of budget I would suggest a hosted cart (Volusion,CS-Cart,Shopify etc.)
If you are tech savvy, are comfortable setting up a website yourself and looking for something free I would use a self hosted solution (Magento, ZenCart etc.)

The good news is that there are literally hundreds of shopping cart packages available. The bad news is the same as the good. Sometimes, too many choices make it very difficult to make a decision - especially when all companies claim to have the superior product.
make sure yourself by understand these
    1.Free or premium shopping carts?
    2.Free ecommerce solutions ?
3.What other features do shopping carts have?
    4.Quantity discounts/coupons
    5.Affiliate modules
    6.What about disaster planning?
7.What level of support will I need and receive?
8.What kind of shopping cart does my hosting service support?
    9.What is my budget?
10.What kind of delivery mechanisms will I require?
11.Where will my business be in 6 months time?
12.Is the cart software compatible with my payment gateway?
13.What kind of payments are supported by the cart?

I will go for Zen Cart, It is a powerful shopping cart software. On the website Zen-Cart has hundreds of documents for everyone from developers to regular non-programmers. There is documentation on products and adding options, the creation of navigation, the homepage of change and custom pages, customize and newsletters tons more. A large part of the whole setup is pretty self explanatory from a web browser, but it is always good to have a reference.

What is the best shopping cart? That question really depends on the business you have or the features you need. Every shopping cart has its pro and cons and I believe there is no shopping cart that is perfect for every one. For example is Magento, Magento is good and may be perfect to some, but also technical and may not be perfect to those who dont have background about computer language.

Comparing shopping cart is the most effective way to determine which cart is the best for you. You can use this shopping cart software comparison chart as basis for you comparison. This has accurate informations about various shopping cart for better comparison and evaluation.
