When I originally started using AdWords I purposely restricted my campaigns to $1 a day just so I would not lose my wallet. I recently did that with pubilicizng a video concerning making money on clickbank and Google suggested I "optimize" my campaign by pushing my daily limit to $10. I chose to be conservative and restricted it to $3 a day.
After 506 views and no conceivable traffic or money arriving, I put the campaign on pause. What I think I should have done is put the URL as the title, that way,no one could escape seeing the significant URL as opposed to just seeing it in the description. I mention this because promoting YouTube videos is administered under your AdWords campaigns.
I bought GoogleAdwordsForFree but that is dangerous because you have to outbid everyone else so you
can end up on top and then get others to pay for sub-advertisements to make up some of he difference between sales and cost. What has anyone heard about the efficacy and approach of the $497 program
    "PPC Domination"?

90% of the money spent on PPC is spent waste, only 10% gives returns that too only int he form of traffic. But may be people who see the ads memorize them only to return later to your site.

The steps you described are done by the most. But your success depends on three key factors.
    1. Is there enough money in the selected niche?
    2. How much competition you are facing?
    3. Did you find a way to out-smart your competition?

You need to do a lot of work or use tools and find answers to these questions. Then if there are positive signs, you can go ahead with your adwords adventure.

Yes, don't target a huge audience if you're just starting out! You can tell if an offer is a good one after about 10-20k imps if your CTR is good.

Interesting questions!...any recommendations on which tools to use to find answers to those questions, and any thumb rules that you propose (am sure it would be different for different niches, eh?

Adwords isnt a license to print money.

Have a good business idea, know what your cost per sale needs to be below, then use Adwords and you must have conversion tracking and analytics installed and an understanding of them otherwise you'll be chucking money down the toilet.

You'll have more success with Adwords if you:

    1. Create highly targeted and relevant keywords.

    2. Create tightly focused ad groups based on those keywords.

    3. Create ads that match your keywords exactly.

    4. Create landing pages that match your kw's and ads exactly.
