    Dude if you're serious about web-development, there are certain languages (whether programming or markup) that must be learnt. The following is a must:

    CSS & HTML - These two go hand in hand. These are for the design and layout of the webpage.
    PHP & MYSQL - Again, these two work with each other. MYSQL is for storing data (database), PHP is the programming language that manipulates that database and a lot more on your server.
    Javascript - This is just like learning PHP, just that PHP can only be used on your server. Javascript is used for client-side manipulation.

    If you want to be a well rounded person you need to focus beyond what is the "best" according to one or two people. Knowing multiple languages is the most beneficial step for programming. For a standard dynamic site you would want PHP and MySQL, with the basic HTML and CSS.

    It will vary person to person. Some will like php, others ASP .net , others JAVA. Its very hard to say one great. Because all those programmings works best in special fields.
