I agree with Scott. There is no best programmig language. It depends on the design of the system then you can choose the best language then apply it.

If it is just in the company, you can use a Window base system. Then Web base if more broader area.

I had worked in two companies and I am using FoxPro for the development of their system. Since most will be use on a certain department, a Window base system is the most appropriate. But when they expand on other branches, we used a Web base system but retain the Window base system.

But in some companies here in the Philippines which do not really invest in IT and just want to automate their system, Window base program is their first choice. I passed some offers but there are lots of small and medium companies who are looking for Window base programs.

For internet marketing, web, and in general, Perl is the best language. Perl is widely used in banking and finance. Fast prototyping and text processing!!! Then Perl has CPAN.. you can find pretty much any conceivable utility module..

    C++, JAVA, C#
    JAVA is more "user-friendly", however.
C++ allows more control over system resources.
C is out of the group - perfect for hardware coding
If you know one of those, others are not a problem, cause principles are the same.

I would have to say that PHP is very important to learn its pretty much a gateway for everything else it teaches you the basics and its also very VERY useful.

The best programming language is depends on what you want to do?
Do you want to create web pages? Do you want to create a PC program?

Please answer and then you'll get a closer response.

Each language has strengths and weaknesses. Some
are great for web development, others for embedded
development and then you have languages that are
extremely popular for desktop software development.

Choose the one who works best for your needs.

I am starting a site which will utilize a database with lots of different categories of data, all of which must be instantly searchable and sortable for users.

    A couple of questions:

    1. Should I complete my database prior to getting a php coder involved, then s/he can integrate the db and php? Or should the coder be involved also in the db creation.

    2. In doing a bit of research it seems like php and MySQL are a great combo to use for a website in general, but how about for this specific type of data-heavy site?

    3. Can Flash be incorporated with a php site?

    Thank you!

My suggestion to you is to implement a CMS like Drupal, Worpress, or Joomla since it sounds like you are building a fairly large site. If you are new to CMSs then it might be a little bit of a learning curve at the beginning but the built in management tools that come with any good CMS will save you tons of time in the long run.

If you do implement a CMS you will probably want to take a look at PHP and MySQL.

Technically C++ can do the most things, however there is no best programming language?

PHP? The best programming language? You guys have got to be kidding me. It's just a web development scripting language.

As someone who has never coded but is tech-savvy, should I be able to learn this CMS enough to manage most aspects of my site? I know there are a lot of "ifs" to this question.

Or maybe i don't really need quite the firepower of EZ Publish and would be fine with one of he others?

My site will be data-driven, very searchable and sortable.

    Thanks
