What is the best non technical web design package?

Does anyone know of a good website build package that works and offers loads of functionality? I have always used a professional, but I have had so many problems with the reliability and the cost that it seems like it would be easier to do it myself. I have looked at Vista Print, very simple, although no rss feed yet. Has anyone tried Xsite pro? The functionality looks good, I don't want anything very technical, (although I do want functionality), your help would be appreciated. I notice a lot of people talk about Wordpress, my present website has a lot of functionality eg A banner ad package, where people pay to advertise on my site, would this be possible with Wordpress. Also is it possible to transfer content from an old website to a new website.

Hi there, and welcome to the forum.

There are several frameworks for building interactive web sites, and some fairly good (and even more really bad) WYSIWYG editors for HTML/CSS in case you want to build a static site. However, without any knowledge as to what kind of site you have in mind, it is hard to recommend anything in particular.

WordPress has grown as a content management system and is actually my personal choice of CMS for small to medium web sites. You can extend it with plug-ins (and yes, there are some for managing ads as well) --- and if you do not require a custom template, there is no programming required to get a site running.

As for transferring contents, you will likely have to copy those contents yourself, unless your current site also runs with a popular blogging software that is supported by WordPress' import tools.

Wordpress is probably your best bet..... Not to duplicate GreenT's answer above, but it is UBER simple, there is plenty of documentation and you don't need technical expertise to use it, configure it or manipulate it. With tons and tons of "plugins" and themes, there isn't much that can't be done with it...

So for "non-tech", budget and ease-of-use in mind, that's the way to go in my opinion.

    Cheers!~

It seems as if everyone likes wordpress. but the WYSIWYGs and CMS may not fit every application. it depends on what your doing. nothing beats a custom made cms.

Thank you for all your helpful answers, the current web address is www.gardenequipmentreview.com" the site has about 1600 pages at present. We also had paid ads running down each side of the page, do you think this would work in Wordpress? I also use a data feed for affiliate products, do you think this would also work in Wordpress?

You could absolutely use wordpress for this site and with a little tweaking/modification and plugins, it will do what you want.

Other CMS systems like Joomla, Websitebaker and a few others would here too but I think Wordpress would work great for you.

    Just my 2 cents... :)

    Cheers!~

I would give homestead.com a look. I used them many years ago and they had awesome WYSIWYG functionality. If you have a design in mind, you can make your website look whatever way you want in literally seconds.

Just used Xsite pro and the free xheader to build two websites and thought it was great. very easy to use, and you are easily able to keep track and update multiple websites.

Word Press is simple enough but if you want to customise it can be very complicated...
