I don't want to be overly dependent on Google. What strategies do you use to get nice traffic to your site, apart from Google? Thanks.

I'd probably say Yahoo or Bing it's a tie between them.

It depends on your site's niche. Register to analytics, and see which SE is next to google in your traffic resources. One of my blog's best google alternative is yahoo, the other is bing. My opinion is based on the number of traffic each SE refers.

Yahoo, Bing and MSN, why look for a google alternative? Google still the best.

Well Google is my one and only choice but Bing is my second choice however it can't ever compete with Google.

Alternatives exists but Google owns 70% of the market, so when you go with another you're losing a huge part of your potential customers.

For sure, but there is a place for smaller players, maybe alternative search engines too :)

Interesting read. However, I didn't see anything to the effect of alternatives to Google. I do believe that strategies to generate massive traffic irrespective of how it is indexed in Google is the safest and wisest approach.

thunderbird: I agree with you. Google is the world's largest search engine. However, I think that future will bring some changes in searching, because a lot of people want to search more than only websites. I think that there is a place for niche search engines with more useful solutions. It will not compete with Google but it will be only the next step of building new kind of searching, may be based on AI.

Different search engines use different algorithms, so for some keywords you can get better traffic from Bing than from Google... Happened to me several times...
