You should Give a try. Even i was using Fiverr and CraigsList, but the responses coming from freelancing website are much more and have genuine clients.

Thanks, I will give FreeLancer a try.

I have gotten some good, long-term and higher paying clients that started as Fiverr jobs, and am always looking for new clients for my copywriting business.

It is easy to get stuck in a rut, but maybe it is a good time to learn a new website and see what I can do there. I always like challenges.

    Thanks again for the suggestion.

Make sure you read the TOS of any freelance site. For example if you accept a job on freelancer.com and the job starts, even if you never get paid, you still have to pay them 10% of the job total. Many charge fees for everything, they charge to deposit money, to with draw money, etc. etc. So be careful.

So a $1000 could cost you, $100 and you get paid nothing. Always make sure you set a milestone payment for at least 10% (perhaps 20%) and never start work until they have deposited this.

Some of the best sites for freelance work, especially when starting out are sites like digital point where you don't have to pay anything to accept a job.

This is very GOOD ADVICE. Freelance and microjob sites want to make a profit on every transaction regardless of outcome. As long as it's reasonable and you understand the rules that is fine, but make sure you know the rules, and noted above.

If you are starting out on a new site, even if experienced on another site, it ALWAYS in in your best interest to read the fine print on the TOS.

I started at oDesk so you could say I'm partial to it. iWriter's good too as well as eLance.

Hope that helps. Have a good day!

I just visited ODesk for the first time based on your recommendation. It looks like an easy site to use, which is always good. If the TOS is reasonable I will try it out.

Here's another tip for people starting out as writers: One thing I do is to register for these kind of sites with a separate email I use just for writing work. Then, all my jobs and job related emails come to one place so I don't miss anything. Also, the email address is similar to my writing website URL. It makes everything more professional.

    Your very own website.

Why use a third party site that pays in pennies, plus takes their cut off the top of those pennies?

Market yourself. Cut out the Middle Man.

For me, SEOClerks.com is the best freelance site. Here I earn extra income by selling Articles, Tweets, Twitter followers, Facebook likes, high PR links, SEO report, blog comments, Article reviews, and Backlinks.
    SEOClerks all the way!!!

I think elance.com is the best freelancing website. however freelancer.com has bought vworker.com, and scriptlance.com already

I have not used another coding site since RentACoder.com/vWorker sold out....
It is very hard to find a coder to work with that you can really trust....

the last coder i hired got a good way through coding, then said he had to redo all of it when i wanted to add something....seriously? and he wanted me to repay for it...so wanted a new feature, now all of a sudden the entire code has to be rewritten? does this make sense to anyone?

elance is the best for all types of freelancing work not only content writing. In terms of trust and less spamming elance is highly recommended. You have to clear a test to be a freelancer on elance. In other websites people put fake projects too. but in elance I have no experience of it.

On the basis of my experience, I would rate as follow:-
    1:- elance.com
    2:-freelancer.com
    3:-odesk.com
    4:-guru.com
    5:-fiverr.com

You must read Faq's coloumn of any website you are going to join. This will save your time & also reduce the chances of being cheated. Working with milestones is always a safe passage.

To be honest, SEOCLERKS for sure (http://www.seoclerks.com/), the best platform I seen so far. They have payouts more often and better selling price range. Also couple of payment ways. In any case, support has always been great and when I withdraw via Paypal, it is instant plus they cover the fees.

The best freelance website for a freelancer is Guru.com. As a new freelancer, you have to careful about the feedback system on Elance, Odesk, Freelancer and the rest which is heavily skewed in favor of buyers. A buyer can quite literally destroy you with a single negative rating which may not even be your fault. You can have a simple disagreement with a buyer and they leave a negative rating which makes it very difficult to find jobs after that. On Guru, there is a system to block feedback you do not want displayed on your profile. The blocking power is equivalent to 10% of total income, thus, if you have earned $500 in a month, you have a blocking power of $50 ...after working for a few months your blocking power can rise to the point where you can block any negative feedback. My current blocking power in Guru is $1,000 because I have earned over $10,000 in the last 12 months.
In addition to the blocking power feature, Guru also has some of the highest paying jobs for freelance writers because the company does alot of offline advertising and there aren't that many quality writers on the site. My typical earnings for a 500 word article are $6-$9.
