WebCEO have a free version although I would recommend that you don't use software as search engines such as Google don't approve of it. If you get found out your site could even get banned.

What is the purpose of the software?

There are various tools for keyword research, competition research, ranking checkers etc, but ultimately avoid using anything that submits your site automatically.

    Hope that helps

uuum, i don't know, but I think you should try the keyword density tool "do a free google search on it", and the free google adwords tool. Use them both to pick your keywords (low competition) and use the keyword density tool to see if you have the right amount...should be between 3%-5%. I don't know the exact formula, but you can find that online as well. Other seo programs out there will be scams and a waste of time.

In my opinion the Google keyword tool is the best free seo tool. Most other good seo tools are paid only.

As for some of the comments above....

sajae: keyword density is not very important. There is no need to obsess over keyword density. Backlinks are the most important ranking factor. Very rarely will you improve rankings by getting keyword density just right. More often the rankings are sorted by who has the best links.

nettech: not all seo software is frowned upon by search engines. You won't get banned just for using seo software. Over 99% of the time, the search engines will have no idea you are using any seo software. Automated directory submission software probably still is a bad idea as it makes your link profile look extremely spammy.

Definitely Google Adwords and the SEO4FireFox extension. Pick the individual tools that work for you.

Use the seo for firefox addon to analyze your competitors for your target keyword(s). Then you will get a general idea of what you need to beat those websites. You will want to regularly build backlinks to your website. That is what will improve your rankings the most. This forum discusses many different strategies to get quality backlinks. Just make sure you don't use the exact same link anchor text for all of your links, or you will likely get penalized for overoptimization. Instead rotate between several target keyword phrases for each page.

For keyword research, I use Google keyword suggestion tool and Wordtracker. SEO plugins that I have in Firefox include: Google toolbar, SEOBook and SEOQuake. There are tons of other tools out there, but these are some of the best applications in my opinion. :)
