What is the best free hosting that can do PHP/MYSQL code?

You can try 000webhost[dot]com - we think they still offer 2 MYSQL databases on their free plan. But after that you have to pay around $5/m from memory.

I've got accounts at a few free places, but as noted above, 000webhost is the best.
Good service if you have a problem, which is rare and they're the only free host that I've found that allows PHP mail.

Their only quirk is that at some point after you set up a site they'll almost always take it offline and do an 'administrative review' where they look over your site to make sure it meets their TOS. It's not a problem, takes about a day for it to comeback, but worth knowing about if you're planning on launching a site.

Nothing like having a site up for a couple of days and the next thing you know it's down for a whole day right when you're trying to get it off the ground.

2's the limit on MySQL's and they have good reliable FTP. The free servers allow only I think 500 users at a time, but generally whenever I log on and check there's never more than 30 or so logged on, so the server's never too busy.

 

000webhost only take 500 users at one server? or did i read something wrong?
Try 5000 - 10 000 ++ users pr server.

choose free cpanel hosting, they can offer more databases and cPanel is quite simple

500 - 5000 doesn't really matter, never seen more than about 30 logged on at a time anyways.

I've tried about half a dozen or so and none do -
search "open_basedir free hosting" and you'll see it's a pretty common question.

This is honestly the first instance that I have seen a number of people consistently post on a thread that a free host is at least OK. I will have to have a look and it may be a good place to get your feet wet with your site before you need to move a good shared or VPS account with a more reputable provider where you can find not free but at least affordable hosting.

 

Probably not, unless you specifically ask one of them to change it for you. The majority of free hosts are not going to let you change the php.ini values, as it leaves their server open to massive levels of abuse.

 

Just like anything else there's good and there's bad - I've bumped into some bad free hosts, but I would guess that they're probably just as bad as if you pay them.


It's kinda odd - people think that for free all the servers are 386sx's sitting in a shed out back by the dumpsters and nobody notices when they go down, which everybody thinks happens routinely. And when they do 'support' response is to go out and kick 'em a few times.

And then for a buck a week they envision technicians with white lab coats and clipboards in environmentally controlled rooms filled chest high with refrigerator sized servers humming softly while harp music plays. Elsewhere other diligent technicians hover over monitors making sure that YOUR account is always up ....

Actuallly what happens is they just take the bandwidth and storage limits off your free account.

Not sure what people think they're actually gonna get for 5 bucks a month ... but if it makes you feel better, go ahead and buy the cow, I'll keep taking the free milk.

As far as I'm concerned $5 a month IS free.

As long as you don't need more than they give and they're known to you to be good, free ones are fine in my opinion.

and I believe the question was answered.

 

The problem with your site, as has already been answered, is that it is trying to use PHP functions that your host has disabled...mkdir, fopen, for example.

 

there really is no good free hosting as it is always limited or not the best
