Vbulletin is no doubt the best script available, however its not free to use, if you are after a free script you should either go for phpbb or swf or myBB

phpbb is the best of these three

    Hope this helps

I always reccomend phpBB. The script is really easy to follow and customise. There are lots of modification and templates available. I'm also very satisfied with the support they give on phpbb.com.
    phpBB is the BEST!

As with all other posts it depends on your situation. Do you desire to use a paid forum script or a free one? If paid I recommend vBulletin, otherwise if it's free I recommend phpBB3 or SMF.

If you want to see more information on other peoples opinions check out some of these threads (there is billions of them threads :p):

Please note there is probably some extremely biased opinions without reasoning for ideas.

If you're just starting out and not looking to spend much cash then bbPress is free and brought to you by the people that made WordPress so you just know it's got to be good.

Thank you everyone for responding to my thread. I looked up in Google some of the scripts listed on here and I found that they all look like very good scripts.

Now, I have another question. If I start a new forum, how do I get it running? I found that most people don't want to post in new forums or the ones that have just a few posts. What would you suggest in promoting or starting a brand new forum? Thanks in advance.

There are several ways you can start up the traffic. From previous reading the methods i've heard of include:

    - Paid posters (bad idea is some cases apparently)
    - Competitions, prizes for certain posters to entice them more
    - Quality information or in general just a good community so you may have to find a few people to initially help you out.
    - Advertising for it?

Either way, they will most likely cost some money, just to get your started.
