What is the best etiquette for dofollow blog comments?

Hi everyone - I have been reading about dofollow blogs and I am wondering if it is ok to use anchor text instead of your name in the comment - or is that considered spam?

I noticed that some sites - all the comments are people using a name instead of anchor text but MOST of the sites I saw there were tons of comments where people used anchor texts vs a name.

What are people's opinion on this topic - especially what do you think the long term effects are?

    thx

People generally don't want you to use their website just to drop a backlink so they'll either: a. edit your 'name' field so the anchor text is something random, or b. disapprove/delete your comment.

ok thanks for your reply. So because I am new to this - how many different times should I post comments on one person's site - is there any point in commenting on multiple posts they have?

if it's best to do just one link per site - should I find an older post with PR?

    thx

If you really have to use dofollow commenting as a means of gaining backlinks, then it's best to just find a specific post that's most relevant to your website. PR should not be a factor; these newer blogposts will eventually have visible PR (they already will carry link-weight).

If you're not going to actually contribute to the blog, don't comment though. That's just spamming.

Completely agree, the best posts are the new ones as they contribute the most to the conversation and they will look the best eventually from Google. If a post has been around for too long than I will not take off the "nofollow" tag from a comment on my blog as typically the people commenting on old stories are the ones that are clearly just looking for a link.

thats a common practice but depends on what anchor you use. just show some respect to the blog owner and think how he/she will feel being spammed. i dont like spams on my blog and no one does. as long as you use a relevant anchor text or something family friendly and not too much commercial, add a relevant on-topic comment that adds value to the blog, you are fine. but if someone goes to an automotive related blog and posts a comment with "buy viagra online" or "play party poker" then thats not gonna be approved for sure.

Contribute to the conversation is the main thing. Some folks don't want keyword anchor text left for the author's name, it's a crapshoot.

I look around the blog and by that I mean I will look at multiple posts, see what others are doing ( allowed to do) and determine what the blogger is allowing. Some blogs encourage anchor text in the name field, while most don't approve. I generally post one, maybe two comments depending on whether I REALLY have something to say. I dont post a comment on sites that allow rampant commercial spammy comments and due to the nature of my niche I will often not comment on family, mommy and daddy, child oriented blogs. While I think blog commenting has its place I do find it tedious many times as I have to go through many sites before I will comment and very often the comment is not posted anyways.
