There's a lot of great information in this thread. Magento is loved by a lot because there's a huge support community. Of course, this exists out of necessity. Since it's free and open source, there isn't any support. As a result, a very talkative and very helpful community of developers has sprung up. You can find licensed Magento developers if you don't want to do everything yourself. It's also very possible to find a ton of helpful information in message boards and at Magento's Forum. Another great option is 3dcart. A lot of sellers love this one because it's super cheap. It'a also got a very up-to-date API, which makes connecting to outside systems really easy. Hope this helps! _ Sean
I suggest you to choose between prestashop and magento for your ecommerce website. Prestashop’s open-sourced platform makes it ideal for any user to tweak, enhance, modify, and develop new features with ease. Magento is a powerful open source platform that can be combined with any eCommerce portal for the generation of highly flexible and customized eCommerce solutions.
Magento, Prestashop or the best one Open Cart. Open cart and Magento have many modules, but Open cart are easy to use, for a newbie Magento are too hard.
My suggestion is, instead of looking for a ordinary ecommerce system, you should look for a social ecommerce system, where the buyers and buy the products and share your products and website information in the social networking websites. So, it will go viral.. think about it..
for somebody who is going to list about 2000 products comparing cost of kartrocket or similar products with hiring and managing own VPS server it will make a lot of sense
Magento and Shopify are fine but for the small business you have to find affordable ecommerce developers to integrate the ecommerce website as per your need.
The best thing to do is identify what your products will require of your platform. For example I chose Volusion for our system because it can list multiple item numbers on a single product detail page. Since we are a B2B e-commerce retailer it was important to have this feature. If you are a B2C retailer you would probably never use this feature. You really need to make a comprehensive list of what requirements your products and business process are going to demand from your system.
