Word press is good. You won’t lose your patience because it’s totally user friendly a computer illiterate can even operate it. There are a lot of gimmicks such as free stuff and the communities are great and wholesome. You should give it a try.

Wordpress is terrible for such sites. For small e -commerce sites I preffer Quickcart.Despite the fact that I use Wordpress for personal sites i'll never consider Wordpress for e-commerce.

We moved our camping supplies store from X-cart to BigCommerce in 2009. We saw sales automatically increase from around $4,000 per month to $24,000+ per month. This was purely due to the move to BigCommerce. We setup 301 redirects, and added some additional meta data (into BigCommerce supplied fields) and changed the design - these were the only significant changes. Sales continued to be above $25,000 each month since.

I sincerely believe that the huge upswing was a result of moving to the BigCommerce platform. They have often talked about their SEO-readiness, but this was absolute proof for us.

I have tried it, and it genuinely works.
The best thing is that provide "technical support service" free of cost.

If you want something simple and efficient I would go with Shopify or BigCommerce (BigCommerce is actually better in my opinion, and Shopify support is really bad from my experience).

Wordpress + WPCommerce would be best , as its easy to install , configure , customize & maintain on the long run.
As long as the customizations are minimal , you can upgrade it easily through WP Admin.
