Read my opinion here: hxxp://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=2204433&page=2#post18123388 SEO friendly is not only permalink, but you need content to boost your web rank by search engine. for under 1000 listing product, you just need hosting with unlimited (unmetered) bandwidth. considering too, if you only sell your product for just your country consumen, chose hosting with your country server base. for example, if I sell product for Indonesian, i will chose hosting with data center located in Indonesia, so my website will be open shortly. And I will not chose hosting with US data center, it very slow for your target consumen. But if you want to sell your product to around world, you need US server hosting. CMIIW regard
I'm surprised that no one's mentioned Shopify yet. In my opinion, it's by far the best e-commerce application out there. You can creat fantastic stores with extreme simplicity. For example, I created www.albupele.com in just a few days (aside from the work put in to take pictures of the products, etc). You can also try it out for 30 days, for free - which is what I did. If you'd like to give it a try, do use this referral link, please: http://shopify.com/?friend=albupele
Can anyone tell me how Zen Cart is for e-commerce? In Godaddy it has some great reviews whereas other do not. Any suggestions?
E-Commerce has become the sure shot way to success for a business of any magnitude and more so for the small businesses. If you are one such small business owner, then it becomes imperative that you be aware of the 5 best e-commerce platforms that will be helpful in garnering more business and in turn more returns on investment. 6 best e-commerce platforms that can be used by small businesses and here they are: 1. BigCommerce.com 2. Shopify.com 3. Magentocommerce.com 4. OpenCart.com 5. Bigcartel.com 6. Prestashop.com
Try Spree Commerce. This platform doesn't have as many features as Magenta, but it is a little easier to use if you aren't as tech savvy.
I looked at Magento but after trialing I found it very slow loading. I've started using opencart on one of my sites and I'm very happy with it. I intend to roll it out across my other sites as well.
Sorry didn't see your question, I use Hostgator for web hosting very reasonable price. I haven't used godaddy so can't comment.
I have looked at at least 40 different platforms, probably more I tried out Magenta, and entirely hosted shops like highwire, miiduu, etc etc etc ALL the big ones and so many more...and all were either way too much money, too difficult to deal with, too ugly, etc. (I sell digital downloads) and after more than a year of searching and trying I have to say I can only recommend PrestaShop, there are plenty of help files, you can upload CSV to get all of your products up at once (I know most have this anyway, but you said something about tedious product additions) its free and with the right hosting (like a business account with an SSL cert included, I think hostgator still has this) it works good. The only thing I don't like is that it's hard to find good templates and deal with the templates when upgrades go through, so I decided to stop agonizing over the design and go with a clean look which the default has.
My favourite is Wordpress with WooCommerce plugin. Reason being; I already loved wordpress before I started eCommerce. Its so easy to use as a CMS rather than Blog and very easy to make custom themes. I also know basic PHP so its very easy for me to mody/make plugins for specific features on a per-site basis. After trying many plugins, I found WooCommerce was the easiest to integrate and had the best/most options. I am just about finished another eCommerce store using WP and WooCommerce. Has taken me 3 days from fresh WP install to a full CMS/Store with custom theme. For a small business, its perfect. Large scale, I would use Magento but that is for another topic
