I want to create an e-commerce site that will host no more that 500 - 700 products. In the past I used Magento, but it is way too slow and tedious to enter products. Can anyone recommend a better platform that can easily be hosted on a site like Go Daddy and is fast and efficient?

Wordpress and Magento are the best platforms available till date. Both of them are dominant in their respective domains. There is a plugin named WordPress Integration Plugin that integrates the two platforms which can give your ecommerce website more functionality.

I''ll also suggest you to try Payst, which will surely assist your ecommerce websites.

I think opencart is best for small business, it has everything and lots of free extensions.

You should give it a try

By the way I wouldn't recommend hosting for go daddy. I have used their hosting the the emails I sent to people got delayed and when I asked them about it they said we don't send them instantly you emails get queued in server to decrease the load on server. Means your verification email for customer can be delayed.

So I am receiving all these suggestions about e-commerce, but I don't like Magento at all, it seems very slow and the hosting is expensive. Can anyone tell me more about os?

Try free Customer Management Systems (CMS) first like wordpress, droopal, joomla, etc. They are quite popular and easy to use.

I recommend BigCommerce. Hosting is included and it's 100% PCI compliant. If you plan to take credit cards on your website (which is recommended for a good conversion rate) you need to be PCI compliant. Most of the solutions mentioned above are NOT compliant.

I would look for something that is free, and possibly open-source. Does your host have something that they offer? Why not try it out?

That's not a good idea if he wants to take credit cards on-site. You are leaving yourself wide open to fees and penalties if you take credit cards on a non-PCI compliant cart.
