What is the best domain marketplace?

    Hi all,

just like the title says: what is the best domain marketplace in your experience? Sedo is quite popular, but if you search with Google you'll find a lot of awful comments about them.

I'm looking for a good domain parking that also gives me the possibility to receive offers from interested buyers. Is goDaddy any good? Do I have to purchase hosting as well in order to park a domain with them (or any other companies)?

    Thanks! :)

This would probably get a more focused response in the Domain Names Forum

However, this question is asked almost every day in there, and it seems to be down to personal preference. In my view, if you're parking a domain name you have to try out all the parking providers, as different niches do better on different parking sites.

If you're primarily selling your domain, Sedo is the best place to do it in most people's opinion. Just this morning I recieved and accepted an offer for one of my domains of mid $xxx which was advertised on Sedo. Obviously I'm very happy with this figure and would recommend Sedo to anyone looking to sell a domain name.

    eBay: No, no, no!

eBay doesn't attract the right people, as selling websites/domain names is a specialised business. If you were going to sell these on eBay you would have to advertise your auction on numerous forums in order to get enough people interested to bid it up to a decent price.

I like The Domain Name Aftermarket (TDNAM.com) - it's owned by Godaddy and they escrow everything so nobody gets screwed. I've found a few good ones there.

    Alright thanks :).

I'm by no means an expert in the topic but I still wanted to give it a try.
I was thinking about registering new .com 2-word domains, park them with NameDrive and try to sell them once they are about 10 months old if the ad revenue doesn't cover the reg fee, hold it until I get a good offer otherwise.

Do you think it could work? Can I hope to get decent traffic even without promoting the domains (waiting for people to type it in the browser for instance), and how much does the value of a domain increase with time?

    Thanks :)

The domain would have to be very good for enough people to type it in. If you did find a domain that lots of people were typing in, I'm sure you'd have lots of offers from people wanting to buy it aswell!

Plenty of people try this out, but it does take a lot of visitors to cover the reg free alone. I've got 20 [what I think] are good domains parked and between all the clicks I've ever had on all of them I haven't even got enough to pay back one of their reg fees yet :(

ouch... but how are you supposed to promote parked sites?

I think my names are quite good, they're in the forex niche. Right now I registered FxTricks.com and MetatraderAdvisor.com and I always try to register only domains that I would buy myself, .coms only, max 2 words, without hypens and that make actual sense. Maybe I'll try to sell them on this forum in a few months if I see they're not getting any clicks.

Would you mind PMming me the list of your domains? So you can't sell g4mbling.com for £9? Uhm... :(

G4mbling .com is my worst domain, it was a mistake buying it :(

I haven't actually registered any of the domains myself, I've just picked them up cheap on my travels :p

As for 'How are you supposed to promote parked sites?' well, you're not allowed to! It's actually against parking terms and conditions to promote your parked site. If I were you, I would recommend building a mini site on each domain and get some Adsense slapped on it which would give you a better source of income, and would probably make more money than just you reg fee. I'll get that list PM'ed to you now :)

outspan, reagarding the negative comments about Sedo on google, users will usually only post comments when they have a problem or when something goes wrong. These comments are valuable of course, but just bear in mind that you will read more negative commments from users than positive.
