I have used phplinkdirectory for a long time on a few of my websites and now I am looking to make another and want to know what your opinions are? I'm looking again at phplinkdirectory and eSyndiCat, any thoughts?

Try to get software which asks the submitter to navigate to the correct category before submitting a site. Otherwise, as your directory grows and you add more categories, you get these massive, unmanageable drop-down lists of categories on the "add url" form, and they take forever to load.

Another thing to look out for is the ability to use word filters. If you want to run a niche directory these are especially useful. I believe Snowblind's directories have this feature, although other scripts probably have it too. The more you can customise your directory script, the better it will be.

You know, you've made TWO posts, and BOTH posts are exactly the same.

Is this going to be a continuing trend on your behalf, or will you eventually contribute something worthwhile?

WSN Links is the best I believe, I have tested a few scripts and the others just seem so limited compared to it. It's also cheap and you can use it 3 times per purchase.

They have a free version too. PM me if you'd like to see some examples of how it can be skinned to have a very unique look.

I currently use Site Sift for my first ever directory and help there has been minimal....in fact I have even read numerous posts regarding we'll help you at 50 bucks an hour....and they don't even use their own directory for their directory. All and all though I have been able to figure out the directory myself and have helped as many as I could along the way. Maybe future members will share their knowledge within the forums and grow the little free script :)

phplinkdirectory is the way to go. If you can figure it out, adding the newtopical that they offer is a way to add variety to your directory.

I love the functionality of PowerSeek. http://www.focalmedia.net/pseek.html

I used the biz-directory script in the past, and I still like it, but PowerSeek sends out the Acceptance & Rejection emails on its own - love that feature. And it has an Import Function to import listings from DMOZ. I tried it once and it worked nicely. :)

Never used phplinkdirectory but I'll look into it.
