I wouldn't be doing my job without saying phpLynx and the fact that you don't need to waste your time or money on adding mods. At $35 it's not only better than probably any directory script out there at the moment its also easily the most cost effective.
I ended up going with phpLD ... I bought the $75 because I don't want that link at the bottom - I'm worried about looking too generic with this. Anyway, I've already ran into a bit of a problem. I'm having quite some problems installing the thing onto my GoDaddy webhost account (where the domain I want to use happened to be...) I'm considering changing to another webhost as I think it's possibly the culprit... Any advice on best web host to use with phpLD? I may just pay them the 20 bucks to install it because this is already driving me a bit (more) insane...
I think you made a good choice (especially since you paid for the 3.2 version as it has a lot more than the free 2.11 version) as I have directories running on many of the scripts listed throughout this thread and I like the functionality, flexibility and easy access to programmers and designers who are familiar with it. As to hosting, one of many companies I use is ehostpros (www.ehostpros.com). They are inexpensive (I think they are running special for $2.99 a month - perfect for running your directory) and pretty descent on service. Good luck, Chris
If I was a cynic I'd swear these "Which is the best script" which then invariably leads to a "I chose phpld" posts, were made by people from phpld desperate to try and get a sale, so flippin predictable. but hey I'm not a cynic and trust people at face value, after all there are always going to be newbies who are misled into thinking phpld is the best when clearly it isn't.
Have you asked them if they can take payment another way? They may be like us and have an alternative provider but not advertise it because it's not an automatic system.
And that's what its all about erumy, satisfaction. Out of personal interest and you can p.m me this info if you like, how much if anything did you pay, did you end up paying for support, extra mods and support, are you capable of installing your own mods, did you use your own template or one of the duplicate thousands out there? There's good reason and its not to put down or boast which is the best script as I know already I just want to find out a few things to help the directory industry as a whole.
