What is the best directory script software? Price/support/features...

So I decided to start a directory on my dating site and decided to just buy a pre-existing one. I have one with PHPLD, one with eSyndicat, and one with SBD. I really like eSyndicat, but if you look at their pre-sales forums, it looks like no one works there any more. SBD is OK, but it has a pretty ugly interface and it seems that since they use the "home/category/sub-cat" structure, I'm not sure I can transfer to another script without losing all of the links built so far. The default seems to be PHPLD, but their support is super rude and the answers are vague.

I get that I'm a complete noob, but when my host, bluehost.com has to answer my stupid questions [with speed, grace and courtesy, by the way] instead of the designer of the software, I'm not sure if I want to spend my learning curve feeling like an idiot the whole time.

Are there any other scripts out there that have great features and has decent support that isn't too smarmy?

Also, if I do this, I'd want to get an unlimited license so I can build a few directories on all of my sites. Who has the best deal on unlimited licenses? Also, if i ever decide I've bitten off more than I can chew and bail on all the directories I build, who is best for transferring licenses?

    Thanks everyone!

I'm hearing and seeing everywhere online pretty much that PHPLD is the best link directory software to use. If you are looking to start an online link directory, I would recommend them.

Just to respond to this quickly - the back-end interface is something we've made over for the next version of the script (SBD 5.0) due out next month. It was made with a focus on function originally, but aesthetics hasn't been left out this time :)

As far as copying over links to another script, there shouldn't be any reason why the database couldn't be migrated to another script given the expertise.

    I also think so, because:
    - Price: $30 --> very cheap
    - Support & Features: very good!

PHPLD is a good script, but there are also some very good alternatives

PHPLD is the best. No reason to go with some 2nd rate script.

For $30 you have to keep their link on your site. $80 for the full version with right to take their links off.

I tried PHPLD a couple of time but it had probs on my local server, so I scrapped the idea., maybe when I update my server I will try it again.

PHPld is works perfect for general directory but not for as script directory. For script directory i am using HotScripts Clone from ScriptsDump.

    Fast loading,SEO optimized,Preloaded listing...

Since this old thread was bumped by someone else today, I'll just add that the new version of SBD Script (mentioned above) has now been released.

Link is in sig for anyone interested.

I see that you did purchase phpLD, and that we have been active helping you in our forums, and I get the impression your directory is working good now. I just answered your question about Aweber. If you have any other problems, my username is David on the phpLD forums.
