I can see many free wordpress templetes, they seem to be good. But why are there premium ones? What is the main difference? Wordpress is a free software and is it worth to buy a premum templetes for it?

Premium WordPress themes allow more options in SEO, customization, flexibility, after-sales support, maintenance etc. If you are happy with free themes, if perfectly alright. Don't bother to spend money after what you don't need.
Another benefit of using premium themes is you don't normally have to worry about dealing with footer links, or links hidden throughout the theme. You can depend that the theme is coded correctly and most designers will alert you of any updates to the theme...most times for free.
Premium themes are definitely alot better than the free ones. Also depends on the niche you use, example if you build business sites, premium theme looks more professional and gives more respectable impression. But i would personally go for free themes (make sure you download from dashboard, those themes are save), and then if you can make money with your blog, save it and go with premium theme.
