If done right could be lucrative but lots of work involved although you could outsource this if you can afford it. The more unique the articles the better.

People send out 1 article to 1000s of sites which is nothing more then duplicate content. and out of that send, you may end up with a few indexed, google will simply ignore the rest... people are just looking for easy/quick ways to make money, then google stops it or does not credit you much for trying to pull the shades over google... Those that are smarter then I will have greater success, but the avg joe will not benefit much...
Don't submit articles. Add them to your site and create unique content rich in keywords. Search engines will bring you traffic after they spider your pages.
