what is the benefit of having a dedicated IP

    One advantage is that you won't have to worry about your site being listed by SpamCop because some idiot on your shared IP sent out a buch of crapmail.

    Another advantage is that should somebody be playing dangerous games with their websites and become banned from a search engine or service for instance based on I.P., then your websites won't be dragged down with 'guilt by association'.

    the third is (not 100% sure tho) you can install some SSL certificates on shared IP's
