LOL no I don't have time to waste for this one. I was just inquiring about it. Yes I did resubmitted it after the crash. And after that I don't have time to even check it out. The threads over here in DP inspired me to go there and check it out. So I just landed on that page and saw the update date.
My online games website was just listed by the directory; I will monitor and keep you folks updated on the direct effect of such a listing with regards to backlinks from other websites dependent on this one.
The way I see it DMOZ= THE MONSTER is dying. Yeah, some would disagree with me, but unless they do something to change the current situation the future doesn't look great for this big directory.
Given that doing things DMOZ's way is making it the fastest growing directory, why change such a successful formula? The only people who seem to want to change that formula are those who are expecting a service that is not provided by DMOZ
Whether it is successful or not would mean little to me. I'm just expressing my opinion. With all the resources available - Why not take advantage of them and do a lot more than what is doing or has done? What formula? The internet is changing so fast and "old formulas" must be adapted to keep up with new ones. I bet that in 5 YEARS dmoz would be a different story. Then I would like to read your post again about "such a successful formula" No doubt is the biggest directory, but for how long? If they are going to do something now is the opportunity or another directory will take its place provide the same service and much more. Gravity always Win and who ever has more gravity will take its place. It is just matter of time.
It does not provide a service - thats my point! Those complaining about DMOZ are the ones expecting some sort of listing service. A lot of other directories provide listing services, but not DMOZ.
It would actually seem that it does... I do say though, that why bother wasting your time complaining on some internet forum that will never make any difference with the inner workings of the ODP? You could better utilize that time emailing AOL...
A lie, repeated often enough, will end up as truth. Dr Paul Joseph Goebbels, Hitler's Minister of Propaganda (1933-1945) My little math lesson contradicts your claims of growing directory, it is maybe fastest but only because it is last of dinosaurs still alive, with Zeal dead there is hardly a real competitor left, all other directories are either niche specific or paid. DMOZ was suppose to server average surfer but with few honorable exceptions average surfer can't even find a category on specific topic let alone a website because there are no editors available to create it.
Your maths lesson confirms it is the fastest growing!. Have you downloaded a few of the most recent rdf dumps and calculated the number of sites DMOZ increased in site?
I just downloaded the latest one. Will get back to you when the next one is available and report the numbers.
