    You should start reading books and get help from forums etc when you're stuck. I think it could help having a concrete project at hand and working on it as you learn.

    the best way is to do both ask from the experts and then read books.

    I would suggest keeping up with the popular web design blogs. Blogs are a great source of new information and the best bloggers are professionals in their industry. When it comes down to it, if you have the desire and time to learn, you will be able to master the trade because there are endless sources to teach you for free on the Internet.

    first ask experts and then read books? i dont know how that works, i mean what are you going to ask an expert about, if you don't know the basics that are outlined in books? asking an expert is for expert stuff, not for basic stuff. unless if i got that wrong

    imo blogs and other sources on the internet are good for keeping one up to date or teaching a few tricks here and there but they won't teach you how to create a website, at least not in an efficient way

    When you say web designing are you talking about the programming, designing or both? From my experience in the field there are no experts who do both. Usually they will be better at one than the other. I truly blame this on using different parts of the brain for mathematical programming to artistic design.

    Where I learned my programming is from O'Reilly books. I know a book costs a bit more, but you have editors and publishers who review the content, verify it is legitimate and it usually has references so you can follow along. I feel their books give great examples of real world examples. Remember, you will start with slow, out dated, mundane details.

    The order I would recommend learning of languages is as follows:

    * HTML
    * CSS
    * JavaScript
    * PHP
    * JQuery
    * AJAX

    It also would not hurt to team up with a starting designer and have him/her get used to Photoshop and you try and program the designs. You can always reach out on DP for those problems you can't seem to solve. The great news is you no longer have to program for Internet Explorer 6! That was a pain!

    If you know someone who is a web designer, camp at his workplace for like a couple of weeks. That's what I did ;)

    I think one good method is trying to make some changes on templates. That can help you see the whole picture!
