What is the bast way to optimize articles?

    Is it better to have many links pointing to your article from sites with no links pointing to them (i.e. hub, lenses, other articles), or is it better to have a few sites pointing to your article with other sites pointing to them (i.e. linking some articles to hubpages then linking those hubpages to your other articles?

    Each method seems to have it's own merits.

    Why not a combination of both methods? It would look naturally as much as possible.

    Backlinks from sites that have no backlinks themselves are useless for SEO.
