    It's just a number that can be mistaken for 'real traffic numbers'. In the absence of a better alternative Alexa and Compete are the most popular methods to estimate traffic numbers for a site.

    In my opinion, it's mostly if you want to sell links or advertisement on your site, the alexa rank is taken into consideration. Also if you want to sell your website, a good Alexa rank is nice to have

    It's just a tool to use to see where you rank. Having a high rank in Alexa, otherwise does nothing for you other than pure joy. If you're selling ads on your site, it's kind of a good thing to have a good rank, otherwise it's just kind of a tool that can be used to compare yourself to competition.

    It has no impact on your site directly, but it has a big impact on the way someone views your site. So if you were to sell it, sell ads, or jsut want to promote your site, a high Alexa rank is a credible way to do that.

    There are many advertisers still considers Alexa as a way to measure a site's ranking. This could be one main reason to get top numbers in Alexa. I couldn't find any other better reason than this.
