Where is some good places to look into for getting loans or goverment grants to starting up a business? I don't really have much money to work with so hopefully something with little to no down payment.

sba.gov is the official govt site, but hear it's really time consuming to get a loan or grant..

Getting a government grant is practically impossible if you are an individual trying to start a new private for profit business.

Loans are becoming very difficult. You need to show a very strong business plan and you need good collateral.

I would check with your local SCORE office, they can give you free advice and at least point you in the right direction.

    -Good luck

I don't recommend you borrow from government coz the paper work involve is a lot and the approval time is around 6 month.
Instead you should try go for micro financing that the loan that bank offer for small business owner.

Borrowing money to start up a business is rarely a good idea. Unless you have a strong business plan, collateral, good credit and are willing to spend countless hours every day devoted to your new business - you have a small chance of succeeding. Try looking into established businesses that are making money right now and are in your area of expertise. Sometimes you can even use the business itself for collateral without putting your other possessions in jeopardy.

If you're doing some creative project you can check with kickstarter.com for getting funding to your project.

We're currently in one of the worst global economic downturns the world has ever seen. Governments like the US and UK are printing money just to keep their economies afloat and bail out a failing banking system. Government grants and loans will be harder than ever to secure - that's just the ugly truth.
