What is "Social Security Number" in paypal?

    I want to upgrade my paypal account, I'm not from US.
    Paypal asks me to enter my "Social Security Number"? what's that?
    just for US users or not?:confused:

    I think SSN is only for US people,its called PAN no in India,where r u from?

    In the United States, a Social Security number (SSN) is a 9-digit number issued to citizens, permanent residents, and temporary (working) residents.

    So its just for US paypal account.

    you need to close your US paypal account as soon as possible or else your account may get limited... open a new paypal with your own country... and you will not have that problem... because only US paypal account ask for SSN number when upgrade.. and so i am sure you have US paypal account....

    Yes, people have given you the right advice. I just want to add here by saying that you open a paypal account with your country name and you can then get yourself verified through credit card.
