Flash is installed on 97% of all computers right now. Silverlight requires a user to download and install an application to use it. Why bother? Use Flash.

Flash is better as it's used on over 90% of computers worldwide. Silverlight is mostly used on Microsoft websites.

Flash is more commonly use, but SilverLight is a more powerful tool.

If you want to get what i mean, maybe you can attend some microsoft talks if there are any in your country. :p

A good resource of flash vs Silverlight: http://www.shinedraw.com/

Yes Microsoft has started using silverlight in all their websites and will replace all the flash content with silverlight soon. There are rumors that silverlight plugin will be installed by default in Windows 7.
