In computer security, a sandbox is a security mechanism for safely running programs. It is often used to execute untested code, or programs from unverified third-parties, suppliers and untrusted users. The sandbox typically provides a tightly-controlled set of resources for guest programs to run in, such as scratch space on disk and memory. Network access, the ability to inspect the host system or read from input devices is usually disallowed or heavily restricted. In this sense, sandboxes are a specific example of virtualization.
There is no official google explantion about this if I remember right. But imagine what is a real sandbox
It's a google technique which is use for choosing good or bad websites. If any websites is spreading more spamming then google hardly react and send into sendbox.
Salesforce.com gives you the ability to create multiple copies of your organization in separate environments for a variety of purposes, such as testing and training, without compromising the data and applications in your Salesforce.com production organization. These copies are called sandboxes and are nearly identical to your Salesforce.com production organization. Sandboxes are completely isolated from your Salesforce.com production organization, so operations you perform in your sandboxes do not affect your Salesforce.com production organization, and vice-versa.
