a sandbox is a security mechanism for separating running programs. It is often used to execute untested code, or untrusted programs from unverified third-parties, suppliers and untrusted users.
It only exists in the minds of people who've either picked a niche/keywords that are too competitive, like SEO, mortgages or weight loss, and/or aren't willing or able to build enough links and quality links to their site. What confuses people is that Google will give new content a temporary boost in rankings which will put a site in the first few pages, maybe even the first page, in many niches. After that initial boost, the site will drop down to its natural level. People think this is the 'sandbox' but this is simply the 'Query Deserves Freshness' algorithm in action. If you've built quality links to your site, you won't see much, if any, drop off once the new content bonus is removed. But, if you've built your link portfolio on sand, well, you'll sink like a rock when the bonus is removed unless the niche/keywords have little competition.
Sand box means when your site doesnt appear into the search engine for any keyword and even when you put your url into that and its still doesnt appear into the search engine

The Google Sandbox is a ‘probationary period’ given to a new site. Though your website may have a high Pagerank, lots of backlinks, and quality content it will not rank high in the SERPs. This filter is said to be placed on ‘new websites’..

ippr123 Is totally wrong ... check out words of other people.. The thing you r talking abt is generally a penalty not sandboxing.
If the Google find your site build in suspicious way I mean the SEO, backlinking, article submission,ETC these are possibilities that your site might put to Sandbox. So be careful in using backlinking and submission softwares.
