I just checked my site stat and found some of them came with "Rippers 0" browser. Is this some kind of web ripper software? Should I block them? How can I block them for accessing my site? Thank you
It has been a while since this thread has been started but today i was checking my stats and noticed that a visitor was using the 'rippers 0' browser. I've done some looking around and from the scarce information i could find i can make an assumption based on the following. It seems that whenever who has been visited by this browser and tracked the ip it leads to a large organisation or company. Examples i have come across are Goldman Sacs, the military in the us and in my case the office of the chief officer of information technology in a govt dept in Hong Kong. I guess it's some kind of logging software tracking the pages employees visit? At least it seems to be used almost only by big companies. I would love for someone to provide some information for or against my asumption. Keep on Keepin' on guys
I noticed a similar web hit, this is a portion of the tracking info from my analytics: 11th February 2010 15:53:18 32 seconds Rippers 0 Arlington, Virginia, United States US Dept Of Justice (149.101.1.117) Must be a government system.
I just got a visit to a Craigslist posting of mine. Not sure if this helps: Host Name: bp13aztmpe-out.wellsfargo.com IP Address: 151.151.109.17 Country: United States Region: California City: San Francisco ISP: Wells Fargo Bank Browser: Rippers 0 Operating System: unknown
I admit that I don't know what Rippers 0 browser is, but I don't think the purpose of it is to copy your site. My site was accessed by it, but as it turned out it is coming from the bank located near the restaurant that I have a web site of. The site has nothing anyone wants to steal from. There's no innovation in design. It's just a whole bunch of Sushi items and other things like Teriyaki Chicken with prices like $3.50, $7.00 and so on. There is just no benefit of stealing information from my web site. It is a restaurant web site and web visitor accessed the site from the nearby bank and looked at menus during lunch time. The behavior of this visit is clearly someone who was thinking what to eat at lunch. This restaurant is located in downtown where all sorts of banks and financial institutions are established. I am very curious to know what "Rippers" is, but I don't think this is something we should be worried over......
Excuse me for bring up an old thread, but it's way better than creating an another thread with the same thing. So, anyone figured it out what it was? I am getting hits by Rippers 0 too.
BUMP. This has been popping up more and more on website stat-counter statistics, and there appears to be very little information, and NO official info online. Someone has the domain .com for it, but nothing is on the site. I have also heard stories of people finding their online movments 'shadowed' by a 'rippers0' browser from their own ip address (according to webcounter stats). Some people say it could be used by corporations to track employee net usage, but many occurances have come up through private home connections! Can anyone shed more light on this?
