    A profile link is a link placed in your signature, this could be on a forum or a social network, it can have value but the more that do it the more likelihood of the webmasters nofollowing all links like this, more so if may sign up and contribute nothing to the site.

    Articles, ads, blogs and forums can be used in a positive fasion to still gain backlinks, it just takes a bit more time.

    Profile link is a link where user can click it and let him know about what your interested and what your like to share.
    Very useful in the purpose of indexing purpose.
