What is PR

    Hello everybody,

Just as the title says what is page ranking, and what is the difference between a PR 3 and PR 4, or PR 2 and PR 3?

Is it better if the number gets higher or lower?

And why should I worry about PR for my website?

    Thanks

Basically Page Ranking (PR) is what google sees your website as, and they give you a number, this depends on popularity and how sucessful your website is at SEO i.e. backlinks, keywords, traffic etc.....

All you need to know check this page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PageRank

NOT TRUE. PR is based on links, nothing to do with keywords, traffic, etc. Did you even read that wikipedia link you provided?

Of course, higher Pagerank means more importance.

PR *usually* means more importance. Really it only means more links though. It's fairly certain that a page with a high PR will get a higher ranking in search results, but the exact amount is unknown (as is everything to do with Google!). You shouldn't make high PR your goal, but it is a relatively accurate means of measuring the success of your SEO (Search Engine Optimisation).

Perhaps you could then explain how 0 and low PR sites almost always outrank higher PR sites?

If a PR 0 or low PR site outranks a high PR site, then it must be for a very long tailed keyword in a very low competition niche.

@ mihereteab, here's what Google says about Pagerank:

Google has a PR10, which is the highest. Could you explain why Google does not rank number one when I search for digitalpoint which is PR7?

Could you also please explain why so many PR0 sites rank well ahead of PR3, PR4 sites etc.

Surely you jest! Do a search for anything. Look at the PR of the top x sites - they are NOT ordered by Pagerank!
