    Thank you usa-im for the links, there is a shell command called ping text, which checks the DNS settings.

    Ping is not illegal as I know.

    I don't agree.. Ping do not optimize your website.
    Ping only notify the search engines or RSS direcotories ( eg. google blog search) that content on your site/blog has been updated and it helps in faster indexing.
