I would say about a year, unless a high price is paid for a lifetime link

Yes it means till life of a directory, but suppose we get a submission just before 1 month of end of site - In that case I suppose refund is a humble way.

I consider adding Permanent (atleast 1 year) words on submit page will secure both.:)

"I would say about a year, unless a high price is paid for a lifetime link" - Mesoc That makes no sense at all and that train of thought is why I don't buy permanent text links.

As far as I'm concerned, the definition of permanent is forever. Forever like the universe. Not the lifetime of the directory, which may go under in a few months, or just a few measly years.

So whenever I see "permanent" links I steer well clear, because it can't be anything other than mis-selling. It's a sign that the directory owner hasn't thought things through adequately, and they perhaps don't intend to keep the directory for very long.

Don't sell permanent links. It's far better to state a time period: one year, five years, whatever. Then you won't be getting taken to court by the Office of Fair Trading (or its equivalent in your country).

I agree about the new owner shouldn't but this isn't a perfect world... I just can't see the longevity on alot of popular directories... Here Today and tomorrow but gone next week.

    From Wikipedia
Permanent Directory Listing – A listing that will stay till the owner no longer as the money to pay for the hosting or renew the domain. If submitted for free could also mean till the directory gets PR or it’s sold.

Ah, thats a nice finding and complete definition..
That makes me clear my confusion -- I will use this for a reference everytime and everywhere.
    Thanks.:)

That just demonstrates the unreliability of using Wikipedia as a reference. They're essentially saying that "permanent" and "directory listing" are oxymoronic. Just because it doesn't happen in practice doesn't change the meaning of the word.

I don't think Wikipedia is is saying that directory listings are any less permanent than any other listing. The point is nothing is forever including a permanent link. The universe that you live in is not permanent.

Prove it. It may explode or implode every so often, does that mean it doesn't exist any more?

A permanent listing to me & most other people is a listing that is active for the lifetime of the directory...

Scientist believe at the end the universe will either expand until it dies, or that at a certain point it will implode and start anew. Either way, the universe that you live in will cease to exist along with any permanent links that you have. This is of course many billion years after the sun explodes taking out the earth with it.

But who can compel this on him if he don't have any contract with the seller?

I would love that if G will consider a permanent link even after the death of the directory you have submitted your link to. ;)

If your buying the link. All you get is a gamble. Really, are you going to sue for $10, $50 even yahoos $350. I know that with few exceptions every link I buy is temporary. I just hope to get enough out of it to make it worth my money.

Sites come and go and so do the owners, about all you can do is badmouth the person a little on DP or some other forum and move on.
