Page sculpting, a new term for me. I googlized it and read matt cuts and seomoz article. Fro there get an idea about page rank flows related to this. As we all know no follow attributes are helpful to deter page rank flow and search engine crawlers. I never experienced page sculpting so don't know more about it. Is here anyone who have expertise in this and can clear this to me.
It (page rank sculpting) doesn't work any more, so there's really nothing to tell (short summary: divert as much weight as possible to specific links). Focus more on just making a good site for visitors and don't fall into the trap of writing for search engines.
PageRank sculpting is the act of optimizing your pages to flow PageRank from your highest PR pages through to your most important internal pages while shunting PR from unimportant pages by directing Google to no longer crawl or index those unimportant or irrelevant pages.
Page rank sculpting was once used to manipulate the link juice, but now its of no use anymore. Let me explain how page rank sculpting worked. Lets say you have 6 links coming from a high PR site.
basically it is when you put a no follow to some of your interlinks so the PR of your pages will be distribute as you wish. for example, if your home page has a PR4 and you link to 2 different pages on you site, lets say one page is "contact us" and the other one is "sales page". so if you will put a no follow tag on the link to "contact us" page than the PR4 of the home page will pass only to the other page "sale page". and the result is: "sale page" PR4 "contact us" PR0 and if you wouldn't use the no follow tag on one of the links then it should be distribute equally: "sale page" PR2 "contact us" PR2 so basically if the "sale page" is more important for you to rank than the "contact us" you should have use page sculpting to push your desire page on Google. HOWEVER, it used to be a black hat method, but today it doesn't even work (according to matt cutt) so it is a useless white hat technique
