    Hi Lizzie,

I understand that you are getting to learn more about SEO, especially in terms of on-page and off-page.

Here's a simple understanding about both of them. On-page SEO is where you optimize your website within by doing SEO in your website's content, and off-page SEO is where you optimize your website outside of it by building relevant links.

For on-page SEO, here's what you gonna do:

    - Your main keyword must be present in the website's title tag, meta description (main keyword must be mentioned twice), and meta tags (you can do that with All-in-one SEO Wordpress plugin)
    - Your main keyword must be present in your blog post's title
    - Your main keyword must be present within the first and last 100 characters of your article or blog post
    - Your main keyword must have a limit of 2% to 3% density, in which the number of main keyword mentions may vary on how many words do you have in an article or blog post. You can Google about calculating the keyword density
    - Your main keyword must be present in your H1, H2 and H3 tags
    - Within the article, your main keyword/s must have at least one bold, italic, underline, highlighted with hyperlink within your website, and highlighted with hyperlink that redirects them to an external source
    - If you have an image within your blog post, insert your main keyword there in the ALT section of the image HTML (in Wordpress, you can switch the content section to HTML if you want)
    - Don't just stick to your main keyword, you should have LSI keywords as well that are related to your main keyword (Google about LSI keywords)
    - Don't put too much ads in your blog
    - Most importantly, your article or blog post must be originally written and not copied from elsewhere.
    - Your article or blog post must be more than 500 words

For off-page SEO, this is more on building relevant and high quality links, and here's what you gonna do:

    - Relevant niche forum posting with signature link of your website embedded on your profile. Highlight your main keyword with the link of your website
    - Relevant blog commenting and guest blog posting from high quality niche blogs and websites
    - Engage with social media fan pages and groups on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest and more.
    - Build quality links with high PR Web 2.0 properties like Squidoo, Tumblr, Hubpages, Blogger, Weebly and more
    - Build quality links with EDU and GOV sites, wiki sites and a lot more
    - Create a press release and distribute it to several press release distribution sites (free or paid) for your website

I hope this will help you out to get things started doing SEO for your Wordpress blog Lizzie. I wish you the best of luck. Cheers and have a good day!

    Jeff

Both On-page and Off-page optimization are important for the website to boost search engine ranking. Through On-page optimization we can improve quality of the website and make an indexable website. Thought Off-page optimization we can create high quality, relevant and natural back links for the website to boost rankings and drive traffic.

Okay, so my website is a news satire website. Every news story is different. Does this mean my keyword should be "news satire" or "latest news" and be on every post?

Hi pianogirl, I'm wondering that you created your signature well and created a thread that you didn't even know how to do ON and OFF page optimization. Are you serious in your thread? Its obviously part of your Off page SEO.

I'm not sure I understand what you're trying to say, but when I created the signature link I had no idea it was off page SEO.

Of course it was a serious question, stop being so pedantic. Including a link in your signature doesn't imply you understand the importance of off-page SEO.

On-page SEO encompasses various things. It basically refers to making sure your site is crawlable, getting indexed, and making your content more accessible to search engines. By focusing on keywords, you are making it easier for people to find your content via search engines. By knowing your target audience, it is going to help you know what keywords they would search for, and therefore what keywords you should target.

Off-page SEO also encompasses various things. Most SEOs use it to refer to link building. Think of links as getting "votes" from other websites. The more votes you get, the more popular and important the page is assumed to be, and this translates to better search engine rankings.

SEO is important but never compromise the user experience.

Onpage is the backside of a website like Dashboard of wordpress. But offpage is a link building or backlinks. You have to put your links to another site. The link should be relevant.
In onpage, there are somethings like:
    1) Title, Keyword, Description Analysis.
    2) Image Alt tag optimization
    3) Header (H1-H6) tag
    4) Keyword Density
    5) Sitemap
    6) Search Engine Submissions
    7) Google Webmaster Tools Analysis and Verifications etc.

    In Offpages or Link Building:
    1) High Page Rank and Low alexa rank link buliding
    2) Forum Posting
    3) Blog Commenting
    4) Answers backlink
    5) Social Bookmarking
    6) Directory Submissions
    7) Relevant Backlinks etc.

And why didn't you Search those keywords in the Search here in the forum or in Google? There would be THOUSANDS of articles about this! Some people already told you some good SEO techniques, so I can't add in something, but I am curious why do you create a new thread with such a GENERAL question... :)

It's good to understand what on or off page seo is. I've checked this site for a previous thread and found that it was a spam site from 2002 to 2005. Guys, before you buy a domain check it out. If you don't your putting in a lot of work for nothing. And another little tip for on page seo, schedule a checkup for your site every few months. Google makes changes to it's algorithms from time to time (more often in the past year) and the old pages on our sites are not up to speed.
