off page SEO factors is all about links, one way links, links from articles, links from people how supposedly like what you have said, my experience with people linking so something they like you have written about about, is they usually just steal it, and put it on their own website as their own work, woulsn't think of giving you a link, or even say thank-you, and then abuse you when you find out about it.

    gotta love the internet.

there are no other categories. but you can categorize the link types.
links from other websites, from theme based sites, from within the content,
    from directories, articles, blogs, etc.

Off-page factors are the factors that are found in link building.

Meaning, you may determine what linking factors you must consider.

I agree with the above post. Off-page optimization are more on getting links either one-way, reciprocal or 3-way link. There are no specific category where you can get links but there are specific ways to get links.

Let's see what I can do to help you then.

No, that's a three-way link exchange, also known as link (or PageRank) laundering. Something I advise people NOT to do, despite their refusal to listen to me.

Depends really. DMOZ, Yahoo Directory and Best of the Web are the three top-tier directories. The first one is extremely difficult to get into and has more abusive editors than (well, I won't go there - don't want to get an infraction or ban). The second costs $299/year, which means unless you can at least recover that cost each year, isn't really worth submitting to. Also while Yahoo! does include directory links in their organic search results, you never know if the directory listing under your site (it'll be indented) will lead to your site or the category your listing is in. The last is about as old as the Web itself. While it also costs $300 to get listed, it's a one time fee, which can give you a long time to recover the cost.

You'll want to read How I Do Directory Submissions by Chris Beasley for more information on how to properly deal with submitting to directories.

Worthless. Don't even bother, especially if you care about things like duplicate content issues that can remove your page from the search indexes of the major search engines while the "duplicate" content remains listed (and ranks well). Here's one case study involving Darren Rowse of ProBlogger: Posting Blog Posts In Multiple Places - Good or Bad?

Listen to your gut. Link exchanges meant to manipulate the search rankings are frowned upon, but having one site owner scratch your back (with a quality link) after you scratch theirs (such as by featuring something the other site owner wrote about for example), is perfectly fine.

It means getting links pointing back to your pages. It doesn't matter if they come from other pages on your site (internal links) or other sites (external links). Just make sure they're relevant, quality, targeted links from pages that are ranking well in the search engines (top 1,000, have a PR4 or higher, related to your page, and contain the keywords you want to rank well for is generally a good rule of thumb to live by) when dealing with external links.

This is a good way to generate traffic when done properly, but won't have an impact on your rankings in the search engines. Tailored Consulting (an Australian Web design company) does this sort of thing all the time.

Depends. The former can be good if you're talking about being featured in a blog post (or being a guest writer on another blog), but it won't mean a hill of beans if you're commenting on a blog for the sake of getting an incoming link.

Don't worry about it. Focus on getting real links instead.

Yes, and by getting other people to link to your pages/site within their forum posts as well (like I did with Darren Rowse's post above).

It's a means of helping the search engines find new content. Other than the very start of a site, it won't help much.

This is more of a traffic and lead generation than SEO tip. In fact, it won't do much for you SEO wise (as far as the rankings are concerned).

It's still recommended - after all, if the search engines didn't want you to, they wouldn't include the means to submit your site to them in the first place (it's called common sense). Besides, it only takes a couple minutes anyway.

He means posting news stories on your site. Becoming an authority on your niche rather than a follower (or hub).

Basically. it's more of a viral promotion tool than SEO one though (word of mouth marketing at work here).

CraigsList, and other such sites. Not worth the time or effort in most cases.

See above. Posting videos to YouTube is a good example, especially if it includes a link back to your site.

Just add another one. Answering to QA sites. Yedda and yahoo answer are also good source of one-way link if you use your site as a resources.
