As everyone knows Google has been rapidly expanding its role in the internet world from just being a search engine to online shopping, desktop applications, email, and now online video.....It seems Google just wont be happy till they control pretty much all major internet markets. So what do you people think that Google will or should go after next....

Still yet to jump into Aution busines chasing eBay. :p

Though they do have exclusive deal with eBay for "Text-based advertising and "click-to-call" advertising functionality".

G-OS (Google OS) sounds like a good idea. It would be great if Google can match Microsoft with a new System. Something Bigger, Faster and REALLY Reliable, would be nice for a change. :D

With there programers that would not be hard just make the OS linux base with their own custom version and add a flashy GUI similar to Windows or osX....they could have it done and out in under 2 years

google will not take over the web...

somebody said wikipedia will take over the web... and it wont...

seriously how many people here would start forums on google groups? not me!

google will take over everything in its niche, but not specific markets.

Look at it like this. Google hosting (if its true) will probably be very good, but do you think google is going to host digitalpoint forums for example? or will they tell you you need to go to a dedicated server? (gridlayer and mediatemplate try to do this, but seriously.. they are jokes on digg).

What will google get into next? Well what is google? Its not really a search engine, or an advertising system or anything most of us know about google. Its more of a marketing company. If anything it will do a product that is related to marketing. Google OS, is most likely reference to google mini, or the bsd google os they use on their servers. But it doesnt help "market" anything.

They also produce products that help them build there marketing, gmail, spreadsheets, docs, hosting, analytics.. maybe a true collaborative system, like microsoft groove?

Google will end up like Microsoft, bloated, corrupt and too big for it's own good.

It's quite difficult for them growing very much and keeping the same quality, anyway I think it's improving in searches

As if Google was not already too big for it's own good lol. One market though that I would expect G to try and take up would be the social networking and take on sites like myspace, friendster, ect....the previous poster was correct they are a marketing company and social networks are some of the largest marketing ventures out there today.

Well I would love to see them provide a service that takes on PayPal. Hopefully they will expand Google Checkout to handle person-to-person, and micro payments like PayPal does.

I seriously think this would be a great option. Google already have most of the infrastructure in place. (Checkout for CC transactions, Adsense payout system for providing cheques etc.). It would also be a nice step to create a method for paying for Google Videos, Adwords and other services.
