In simple words it is black hat seo...if you do keyword stuffing, Excess of directory submission, excess of article submission, duplicate content, use of hidden content, spamming, link spamming, etc. this is called negative seo and will get penalty from google one day..!!
what is considered to be excessive? im about to hire someone to do 8k manual backlinks (doubt it will be 100% manual....) is this excessive?
Nufox i strongly disagree with you! Negative SEO isn't black hat SEO, basically it is a technique in which you spread out rumors or true information against your competitors to decrease their Profits or to make their entire product totally unsaleable. This is not Black Hat SEO but its surely Unethical.
I agree with you Adbash, that's what Negative SEO means, i don't know why people are comapring Negative SEO and Black Hat SEO with each other. People really need to get their facts straight before posting on such forums. It would be great if people provide correct information so that it would be useful for others.
adbash has the most accurate definition of 'Negative SEO'. It's now hitting it's peak ever since Google rolled out the Panda/Penguin Updates. People go out and try to blast the site they want to target with a bunch of spammy backlinks, in-turn the site they blasted would now 'tank' in the search engine due to Google putting increased awareness on "Unnatural Links". Google doesn't want people to game the search engine and yet it allows people to game it by dropping peoples competitors out of their top spots. It's kind of a catch 22 for Google.
it is a black hat technique that has some sort of bad text links to demote your webpage that links back to the competitor’s site. Mostly used by the competitors and is an unethical practice.
