I have been working on link building for a couple of days. How soon should I expect to see results with my PR? Is off page optimization more important than content?
If you've been working hard, you'll most likely see results with your PR on the next update, you've just missed one. Both onpage and offpage are important, but without links your nowhere
why do you care about PR more than visitors? anyway... if you have incoming links you'll get PR on the next update, most likely. also: it's possible to rank for terms with only off-page optimization, with absolutely zero on-page. the reverse is almost entirely impossible-- in most cases the page won't even be in google if nothing links to it. take from that what you will. however, you should use both on and offsite optimization to your advantage. content does not affect PR. not directly. good content, however, attracts links. links translate to PR. links translate to high rankings... at least they did before the sandbox, anyway.
What you see on the toolbar is only updated every few months or so. But Google updates everything daily.
I get this question from clients too. What is the MOST important thing to work on? I don't think there is a single most important factor or tactic, but a combination of efforts. Your offsite optimization wont help you much if you don't have good content once they get there, but even if you had the greatest content ever it doesn't do you any good if you haven't built any links.
I'm definately more interested in getting lots of traffic. That has always been the problem with my sites. I'll get PRs of 4 or 5 but little traffic.
content is just as important as off page optimization. You want to keep the spiders coming back and indexing as many new page's as often as possible. As for the PR, it updates every 3 months..I can't remember the exact date of the last update but search the forums for PR update and im sure you'll see the post..When you see someone has noticed a PR update and there are a number of confirmations then you can be pretty sure that was it...estimate about 3 months from then and if its more than a month from now you should see some results from it
Offpage optimization and content are all important to have a pr. So you better optimized your page and build backlinks. Bacause if you have more backlinks it means you gain link popularity. Link popularity is also one of criteria in giving your site a pr.
Off page and content both are important to increase page rank...I have seen several sites which have no backlinks but good page rank...
