Firstly i would say that both are vital. And if you have that great skills in writing unique and relevant content and if the people like it, then they'll automatically share your links with them. Here you got backlinks as well. So in my point of view, you are better to pay attention on both good luck

Just know its all about "earned links now" then just any backlinks.

 

You need to have both to increase visitors. If you have no strong content and a bunch of back links, traffic won't be sustainable. On the other if you spend all your time to create content, and don’t have any back links, nobody can find your site and you have no visitors.
