To help assist local businesses, Google introduced local business listing. Usually you get to see the listing of these businesses when you search along with location as keyword and you see a map with list of companies next to it to identify companies located in that search location.
Google introduced Google Local Business for promoting local business in the geographical area. Secondly, it has changed its name to google places and even yahoo has local listings like this. This really helps in generating inquiries for local business.
This is where your business shows near the map when somebody is searching for your keyword/s in your area. you have the same for Yahoo and Bing.
