Link Farm are websites which just created for link building purpose. Have 100's of non- relevant or you should say crap links at home page. In a simple sentence a crap website with no use apart from link building. Thanks
Link farm is a group of unrelated number of websites. it is mainly used for link exchange services. Link farm is not relevant as it is a form of spamming the index of search engines.
In short farming of links is called linkfarm. If you engage in link building process with all kins of link whether they are relevant or not, it is called as link farm.

Link farm is like a link directory where every sites is connected to each other site in that directory via links whether relevant or not.
Group of websites/directories that all links to each website of the group called link farming. Let suppose, you have 4 websites A, B, C & D where: A is referring to B, C & D B is referring to A, C & D C is referring to A, B & D D is referring to A, B & C The process of this linking is called link farming.
A link farm is any group of web sites that all hyperlink to every other site in the group. Although some link farms can be created by hand, most are created through automated programs and services. A link farm is a form of spamming the index of a search engine (sometimes called spamdexing or spamexing). Other link exchange systems are designed to allow individual websites to selectively exchange links with other relevant websites and are not considered a form of spamdexing. Search engines such as Google recommend that webmasters request relevant links to their sites (conduct a link campaign), but avoid participating in link farms. According to Google, a site that participates in a link farm may have its search rankings penalized. Links from related sites carry more weight than those from irrelevant sites. Simply says, Link Farm is nothing but crappy site.

And it could be the possibility of gaining unrelated links produce from that 1000 backlinks, am I right? This brings to my question here, anyone here has tried this for increasing your site exposure?
