Links form a major part of seo. See an overview of different link building methods but make sure you mix your anchor text and also get a mix of dofollow with the odd nofollow thrown in to make links seem "natural"; also don't suddenly get 1000 links pointing to your site. The main thing is to make the link building campaign "seem natural".
You can comment on some good blogs to gain easy backlinks. Use dofollow blogs because those are better to gain links.
Link building is about swapping links with as many other websites as possible to generate more traffic.

I've had a lot of success with link submission sites. Go to your favourite search engine and search "Free link submission." Other websites will then submit your website to search engines for you. This basically increases the number of links on the web and when a major search engine does a crawl it is more likely to find your site and list it. If possible create unique email address through your website to do this as you tend to get a lot of spam, but I've noticed improvements in my web traffic. If the submission site wants you to put a link on your site before they submit your link to other sites do so, just change the font colour to match your background colour so no one can see it, then change the font size of the link to as small as possible and forget about it.
