What is Link Building?

When people offer services building links.. what exactly are they offering to do? Put your link in directories? Or is there more to it than that?

It depends, they range from directories to blog comments to other sites. Some of the better ones will actually use links related to your web site, but from what I've seen, the majority of these services don't offer anything that can't be accomplished on your own. I guess the main advantage is that they could save you a little time.

If you could just do your link submissions manually, although being a little time consuming, that would be much better as you have control over your whole submission process.

different link builders use different tactics in the process
if you want some link building done for you just ask them what do they offer and choose the package you like

Link-building is the practice of obtaining links from external web sites to your own to improve both direct referrals (people clicking on the links) and search engine ranking.

    You can build links by:

    Directory Submission
    forums posting
    Blog Submission
    press release submission
    Link exchange

True, it is something you can do yourself.

Unlike Directory Submissions, Link-building is selectively placing your site links at relevant directories, sites and so on. Usually these are one-way links to you so you do not need to offer repricoral links to those sites. There are those sites which may require recip and Linkbuilders achieve this by doing a 3-way links, ie the linkback to their own site.

Yes, indeed you can do it yourself. You don't need to run a bunch of them at a time. I guess the only thing is that you pay the linkbuilders because they have the connections but then again, not all linkbuilders are good and you may just end up paying for an expensive directory submission.

Linkbuilding is not about getting people to visit your websites, it is more for the sake of increasing your pagerank.

I see that the only real difference between standard submission and linkbuilding is that linkbuilding ensures your links are added to the site.

Ya! Link building can definetly be done on your own. It just takes some time and patience. I say make sure you post alot of posts per day on several forums, at the same time submit your site into many directories a day at least 20 a day and do a few link exchanges I believe you'll be good to go. simple as that.

Sorry, but I don't completely agree with that statement. Yes, link building increases your PR, but it can also bring you a nice amount of targetted traffic. Atleast, it has in my case. :)

hand submission takes lot of time. Is there easy way to hand submit to all directories in one go, I mean fill up just one form and then submission goes into all directories.
